Ideal Candidates

The ideal candidate for pain management is a man or woman who is experiencing chronic pain that is unresponsive to anti-inflammatory medications or home remedies, such as cold compresses and rest. To ensure that pain management is safe for you, Dr. Thaker will meet with you during a consultation and discuss your lifestyle and medical history before creating your customized treatment plan.

Treatment Options

PRP Therapy

PRP therapy uses the body's own natural healing process to provide pain relief. A concentrated injection comprised of platelet-rich plasma will be administered to the damaged ligaments, tendons, or joints that are causing your chronic pain. The solution promotes tissue repair and accelerates the rate at which your body heals itself. This method of pain management is highly effective and extremely safe.

The process of prolotherapy involves the injection of an irritant solution into a joint, ligament, or tendon, causing localized inflammation and leading to an increase in blood supply to that area. The increased blood supply stimulates cell growth and repairs tissues. This effective pain management method improves function and promotes healing.

Trigger Point Injections A trigger point injection is the administering of a pain relief medication directly into the trigger point that is responsible for the pain. Medications, such as lidocaine, may be used, as may a corticosteroid and lidocaine mixture. These injections provide fast pain relief but may not last quite as long as other treatment methods.

Steroid Cortisone (steroid) shots are injections that are used to help reduce inflammation and relieve pain in your joints, most commonly the ankles, elbows, knees, hips, shoulders, or spine. Dr. Thaker administers these injections in the comfort of Thaker Cosmetic and Wellness with patients able to return home the same day.

Viscous-Synvisc This injection is comprised of a viscous fluid derived of a solution called hyaluronan that is delivered into the joint spaces in a therapy called viscosupplementation. The injection increases lubrication in the joints, decreasing friction and pain.

Facet Joint Injections

Facet Joints This type of injection may be used on the cervical, thoracic, or lumbar facet joints, and involves the use of a pain-relieving medication that will be administered for both diagnostic and pain relief purposes. The injection may also contain and steroid medication to extend the period of time a patient receives relief.

Lumbar Epidurals A lumbar epidural, also called a lumbar epidural steroid injection, is a minimally invasive procedure that treats pain in the neck and back for up to a year. During the procedure, a corticosteroid solution is injected into the epidural space of the spine for reduced inflammation and temporary pain relief.

Medial Branch Block A medial branch block (MBB) is the injection of a pain-relieving medication into the facet joints in the framework of the spine. Pain relief with MBB is not typically long-lasting and is most commonly used for patients with severe low back pain.

Nerve and Muscle Testing

A nerve conduction study (NCS) and electromyogram (ECG) are diagnostic tests, often performed together, that can help Dr. Thaker understand the source of your pain and weakness. The studies help to determine how well your muscles react to your brain signals and how fast and strong your nerve activity is. The tests, when performed together or separately, can help diagnose some of the following conditions:

  • A herniated disc
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Peripheral nerve problems
  • Neuromuscular diseases (like muscular dystrophy)
  • Pinched nerves
  • Guillain-Barré syndrome

Migraine Treatment

BOTOX is widely recognized as an effective cosmetic treatment for fine lines and wrinkles. However, it has many medical applications. BOTOX can be used for the treatment of chronic migraines and is highly effective for patients who experience 15 or more migraines a month. Dr. Thaker will inject BOTOX into the pain fibers and nerve endings around your head, temporarily paralyzing them and providing a 50% decrease (more in some individuals) of migraines for up to 12 weeks.

Many pain management treatments can be covered by your health insurance provider. If you have medical insurance, we ask that you provide our team with this information prior to your consultation so that we can determine your coverage and maximize your benefits to minimize your out-of-pocket costs.
