Hair Transplant in Las Vegas, NV*

About Hair Transplant

Hair loss is a major concern for many women and men, whether it is caused by age, genetics, hormones, medical conditions, or from styling products or practices. With recent advances in research in the hair restoration field, new treatments have been created to help combat the issue. Board-certified cosmetic surgeon Dr. Reuben Thaker of Thaker Cosmetic and Wellness is one of only a small handful of hair restoration surgeons in the area to offer several innovative restoration options from his practice in Las Vegas, NV. FUE (follicular unit extraction) and FUT (follicular unit transplantation) are two popular and highly effective hair restoration surgeries that have shown promising results for both men and women. These surgeries use similar surgical techniques to transplant a patient's own hair from full areas to thinner or bald sections. Thaker Cosmetic and Wellness also offers PRP therapy for hair. PRP Therapy for Hair Transplant

Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, is an innovative nonsurgical remedy for hair restoration that is showing remarkable benefits in slowing down, stopping, and reversing hair loss. PRP has shown promising outcomes in patients with alopecia areata and thinning eyebrows. By mixing a powerful solution of growth factors and bioactive proteins, Dr. Thaker can help strengthen the function of your hair, leading to longer, thicker, healthier locks.

Ideal Candidates for Hair Transplant

During your initial consultation with Dr. Thaker, your scalp will be examined and assessed to determine which procedure you are the best fit for. PRP therapy can be performed safely on nearly any person with thinning hair while candidates for hair restoration surgery will need to have sufficient donor hair on the back of the scalp to transplant to the balding areas. The best candidates for FUT and FUE are men and women with only frontal or partial hair loss and with adequate donor hair.

Procedure Technique for Hair Transplant

FUE Your FUE procedure will be carried out in our Las Vegas, NV office using local anesthesia to numb your scalp. An oral sedative might be added to keep you calm during the process. The donor follicles will normally come from the back of your head as this is an area where hair growth is constant. For medium to large grafts, the back and sides of your scalp may need to be shaved. For smaller cases (less than 1,000 –1,200 grafts), you may only need to get a small strip of hair shaved, which will be camouflaged by the hair above it. The donor hair is removed in follicular units, typically about 1 – 4 hairs. The hair removal process is randomized so the hair near the extracted grafts will grow back and then cover the extracted follicles. The transplanted area will be created by Dr. Thaker based on the angle, depth, orientation, and density of your scalp to make natural-looking results.

FUT – During the procedure, Dr. Thaker removes the donor tissues in a single thin strip. The incision left behind is closed using sutures. The hair above the donor site incision will easily conceal it so it's hidden immediately following the process. The resulting scar will be a thin line, typically 1 – 2 millimeters in width. The total number of follicles that can be transplanted overall depends on your individual donor area characteristics, such as follicle density, scalp elasticity, and hair texture. These follicular grafts may contain about 1 – 4 hair follicles. The recipient sites where the hair must be transplanted is created with small incisions. These sites are chosen in line with the suitable angle, depth, frequency, and orientation necessary to achieve the best cosmetic result.

PRP – A minimally invasive procedure, PRP therapy is completed during a short 60-minute in-office visit. The procedure begins with obtaining a small amount of your blood and placing it in a special machine, which rotates the blood at high speed to separate the platelets from the remaining portion of the blood components. Next, a local anesthetic is administered to your scalp and the concentrated platelet-rich plasma is reintroduced into regions of your scalp that are thinning or bald. Finally, microneedling is performed on the scalp to create micro-trauma and micro-channels into the skin, which activates the PRP and permits it to penetrate deep into the skin. Our protocol for nonsurgical management of hair loss contains an initial treatment and maintenance treatments roughly every nine months to one year.

What to Expect

Depending on the method chosen and carried out during your appointment, you may need to prepare for a recovery period ranging from a few days to a few weeks. With each of these hair restoration procedures, patients can expect redness, swelling, and a bit of discomfort afterward. Those who have undergone FUT or FUE will be given detailed aftercare instructions by a member of our team that will specify how to care for incisions, what activities to avoid, and how to prevent infection. To expedite healing, patients are encouraged to closely follow instructions and attend each follow-up appointment so that Dr. Thaker can monitor your healing.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do hair transplants last?
In some cases, transplanted hair is lost as the patient ages, but the majority of patients have restored hair for life. During your consultation, ask Dr. Thaker if he believes you are a good candidate for hair restoration surgery and whether he believes it to be a lasting solution for you.

Is there any scarring from hair transplantation?
With any surgery, there is a risk of scarring. However, Dr. Thaker is a skilled surgeon who will use his best efforts to reduce the risk of scarring following your procedure. During surgery, Dr. Thaker will attempt to create incisions that can be disguised by existing hair. If you are nervous about the idea of scarring, ask Dr. Thaker to discuss the possibility further with you during your consultation prior to surgery.

Are there any complications or risks with hair transplantation surgery?
Very few complications or risks are associated with hair restoration surgery. When a complication does arise, it is typically infection, which often occurs when a patient fails to follow post-operative instructions carefully. If an infection occurs after your surgery, it is generally easily cleared up with antibiotics, which Dr. Thaker can prescribe to you.

How many hair transplant procedures are necessary?
While the number of procedures you will need could vary according to your aesthetic goals, most patients achieve their desired results with two procedures.

If I have a medical condition can I still receive a hair transplant?
Some preexisting medical conditions can prevent patients from qualifying as a candidate for hair restoration surgery. During your consultation at Thaker Cosmetic and Wellness, discuss any preexisting medical conditions with Dr. Thaker so that he can determine whether surgery is an option for you. Most patients still qualify for PRP therapy even when they are not candidates for hair restoration surgery.
